This illustrates (and answers) a question I've always asked myself: Why shouldn't we code batch jobs in java...? In fact It's a lot more portable, testable and encapsulate-able than most of the usually used languages/platform nowadays.
Spring Batch 2.0 will be Java 5 ready.
Really interesting talk, yet already partly seen last year, and...I passed out a bit.
It seems that there is an underlying convergence between Spring Batch and Spring Integration (after all Batches are only integration operations that are longer or operate on larger sets of data, with a bit more requirements in the failure handling...)
